Welcome to the Family, Millie & Louise!

Only about a week after we lost our Mooshie, I couldn’t stand the emptiness. There’s just something about having another soul in the house that just provides comfort. Someone to say hello and goodbye to. Someone to ask dumb questions to out loud. Someone to snuggle with when you’re alone at night. I missed Moosh so much that it hurt.

I delicately approached Chris about possibly thinking about another pet. It felt too soon. Like I was doing Moo wrong. But I also knew that animals bring so much happiness and we had given Mooshie such a wonderful life. Chris was so relieved. He was thinking it, too, but didn’t want to bring it up to me just yet because he knew how upset I was. We were on the same page!

So, today we headed out for our appointment at Southampton Animal Shelter to meet a pair of cats that we found on their website. Unfortunately, we really didn’t connect with them. We spent our afternoon meeting and playing with every possible variety of cat and kitten – seniors, babies, Marsha the mouth, special needs, and grumpy old things.

In the kitten room, there were some really sweet little babes, but we didn’t plan on getting kittens. But then there were Bessie and Clarabelle – a bonded pair of sisters who had to be adopted together. They were shy, but playful. We could tell how much they loved each other, and the way that they played and wrestled made Chris giggle.

We left to have a few minutes to talk – and these two little nuggets were at the top of Chris’s list. It didn’t take long for us to go back in to see them again. We learned that they were trapped together as babies from a feral colony, bottle fed together by a foster mom, and were finally ready for adoption. It felt like five minutes later, we were loading them into a carrier to take them home!

We took these two little butts home and gave them their own bedroom for a week while they got used to us. We also changed their names to something that was meaningful to us. Now, these two little girls basically own the house. I’m fairly certain they hired a lawyer and signed the deed over to themselves by day three. I won’t argue. They bring us immeasurable joy.

Welcome to the family, Millie and Louise!
