House 3

We Bought a House!

After casually looking for about two years and seriously looking for one, we found it. The house ticked so many of our boxes…and that barn! I went to the open house with my sister because Chris was working. As soon as I sent the pictures to him, we scheduled a private showing for the following day. That afternoon, we were putting in an offer.

After best and final and a carefully drafted letter to the sellers, our offer was accepted! We signed the paperwork and got an inspections done in record time.

On September 24th, 2019, after over four months of waiting – it was finally our closing day. We woke up earlier than usual because Chris was having a little eye trouble. He flushed it with water. Didn’t help. He got in the shower and tried flushing it again. Didn’t help. So off we go at 6am to Brookhaven Hospital. It was the closest and what we thought would be the fastest for getting in and out in time for our 9am walkthrough and closing in Sayville.

Waiting for the doctor felt like an eternity. Finally, we were seen, and a quick dye test revealed a badly scratched cornea. How Chris managed to do that in his sleep is beyond me. But then again, he never ceases to amaze me and always keeps me on my toes! This day was no exception. After a bunch of numbing drops and some antibiotic ointment, we were on our way. We were cutting it close, but we knew we’d make our closing.

We pulled up to the house with little time to spare. We did the walkthrough with the seller – who was absolutely amazing. Then we went to the office to close. Just a short time later, we left with a new set of keys!

We did a quick stop for pizza at Sal’s because we knew it would be a long day ahead. We couldn’t eat fast enough. I just wanted to get into the house.

We arrived, and the whirlwind began. Visitors, moving, measuring, toasting, and planning.

We spent the last part of the evening alone in beach chairs in the barn. We popped a bottle of 1999 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon and drank it out of plastic cups on the floor. The perfect end to a perfect day.

And with that, Club 160 was born.
